Writer's Block

I used to think that the cure for writer's block was to take a nap on the couch.  It turns out not to be true.  Apparently the only way to overcome writer's block is to WRITE -- who knew?

Editors

Everyone needs an editor.  Some are better than others, but writing for a good editor is the best writing class in the world.  A good editor will change your golden words into even better ones.

At the very least, everyone needs to run their work by someone else, even if that someone is only one's roommate (or husband) who doesn't know anything about the subject matter.  All the better, actually, because he or she can tell you if what you've written makes any sense at all.

Rewriting

I had a writing instructor who would hold up two pieces of paper, one blank and the other full of text.  Then she would ask, "Which is easier to rewrite?"  Evidently the only way to have something to rewrite is to WRITE.  Oh.
